The Selective Laser Metal Sintering (DMLS) belongs to the more general group of Direct Printing (or DP), a rapid prototyping technique that allows the construction of details through the selective addition of the material in the form of powder. The material is processed by a laser that reinforces it and constitutes the object.
Given the high surface tension that is generated during the cooling of the sintered metal it is necessary to resort to supporting structures that stabilize the constructions.
This technique is very suitable for creating objects that are very complex or impossible to obtain from the most elementary techniques. The favorite objects are therefore all those parts with high complexity of shape and low mass.
