Sintered plastic prototypes: learn about SLS Prototypes printing service

The Flight HT403P-H3D printing system recently joined Prototypes technologies to offer an even broader and higher quality rapid prototyping service. A machine that enables the sintering of polymer powders to make a wide range of advanced prototypes that meet the needs of every customer and industry.

SLS 3D Printing

The Selective Laser Sintering is a 3D printing technology widely used for the production of functional prototypes and complex parts. This process differs from other 3D printing methods because it uses laser sintering to melt and solidify thermoplastic material powders (PA, TPE, TPU, etc.).

With the advancement of technology and the wide range of materials available, SLS printing continues to revolutionize the manufacturing industry and offer performance solutions for the production of advanced components, just like the system chosen by Prototypes.

A state-of-the-art SLS printing system

Unlike conventional SLS systems, the polymer used by this state-of-the-art machine is designed for industrial applications and is dyed black. This choice is not accidental, as the whitish materials usually used are more prone to dirt and stains during environmental testing.

The quality of parts printed with this SLS printing system is so high that they can be painted directly, without the need for manual retouching and ready for the next stage of the development process.

The printing chamber has generous dimensions, measuring 400x400x540 mm (h). This allows even large components to be made for those industries-such as the automotive industry-that need them. In addition, thanks to the automotive sub-module heat-sealing technique employed by Prototypes, larger parts can be structurally joined together to create bulkier and more complex components without compromising strength.

Another great advantage of this 3D printing system is its ability to maintain the accuracy of circular details along the Z axis during construction. Unlike previous generations of SLS printers, which tended to ovalize circular details along the Z axis, the Flight HT403P-H ensures that prototypes retain their original shape, avoiding unwanted distortions.
